Why Mommy Milestones?

Our kiddos are AMAZING. We pay attention to their growth and development and awesomeness every. single. day. It’s a big job… being a mom. And that’s where Mommy Milestones comes in. Could we challenge ourselves to spend just a moment and think about ourselves? (I know… something feels a little selfish about this). Think about all of the growth and development, challenges and wins. Mommy Milestones was created to recognize and celebrate the moments often missed in our busy lives. They are the breakthroughs we achieve but don’t take time to notice, let alone celebrate. Some milestones are life-changing (a few we would like to forget). To my core, I believe it is so important to know we’re not alone in the precious world of motherhood. It’s equally important to recognize that within the everyday moments, we moms are accomplishing BIG things. My hope is that we can share a laugh at our desperate times and sleepless nights; a virtual high-five at the multiple attempts at trying to fit into our jeans and ultimately the day we learn that Grandma’s really do know best. Embracing the fact that what we do every day matters – it is enough & we should remember that we are amazing exactly as we are. I want us to take a moment and celebrate the unsung accomplishments of motherhood. They are something to be proud of, feel awesome about. They are worthy of pausing in the moment for some well-deserved self-congratulation, as they are what make up our one wild and precious life…regardless if you plan to tell anyone about it or keep that treasured...

Morning Coffee

I’m just back from a few events in TX and NC … You should know, my husband is awesome about keeping the kids alive while I am gone.  Like clockwork, when I roll back to Fargo, we need groceries. On the list was coffee (and that could be a disaster) … so clearly a grocery run was a priority. Shopping done; I offered myself a special treat – a quick stop at Starbucks. I was going to hit the drive through – but the line was ridiculous and my order is a simple brewed coffee (with milk or cream) – and there was no telling the complexity of the orders in all of those cars ahead of me, so I opted to run inside …where I found all sorts of grumpy people waiting for their order. (Surprised at the amount of people in line on a random Thursday at 9:30am…is this normal??) I placed my order and the Barista gave me the three options of the ‘brew of the day’ and I just picked one (randomly). She poured it up, added a splash of milk then went to ring it up. She looked at me and asked what the brew was again… and I had to be honest and let her know that I like all their coffee and I just picked one – didn’t really remember which one it was. She started to laugh. Apparently most people aren’t as random with their coffee drinks as I am. She told me that the store had been crazy – and that she really appreciated that I was such an easy-going customer....

Changing It Up

I am the first one to raise my hand when asked “who’s ready to try something new?” The next thing I know I am knee-deep into a new situation (that I brought on myself) thinking “I HATE THIS” um … I should have given this more thought. I know this about myself – it happens all the time.   I totally want to try this NEW HAIRCUT! <enter tears> I am so excited to learn this NEW JOB! <enter map of here the staplers could be found> WHOOHOO I am going to be a NEW MOM! <enter Mommy Milestones> I do love changing things up. The outcome never goes according to plan … is usually better than I ever could have dreamed; as long as I am open to a new ways of doing things. So when my husband and I started brainstorming how to have THE BEST SUMMER EVER. My hand was the first to raise agreeing to take the kids away from Mindcraft and living abroad for five (5) weeks across Scotland, England and Italy. Cheers to all the milestones to come & to Clark Griswold for showing us the...

Beautiful Messy Best Mother’s Day Ever

I am all about celebrating – an excuse to use the real glasses and maybe bake bring home a cake, sounds like the makings for a Best Day Ever. But I am going to be honest with you, Mother’s Day 2015 … I was tired. Seriously tired. And as much as I wanted to play all day with my awesome family, I really wanted to take a nap. A really long nap. Lucky for me, the daddy in the house gave me the thumbs up on the idea and I didn’t look back as I sprinted to catch those sweet ZZZ’s. AHH-MAZE-ING. When I came down the steps from the best gift I could have ever imagined – I found a fresh batch of groceries in the kitchen, food cooking on the stove, the dishwasher being loaded and the most perfect look on my 7 year old’s face … clearly expressing her concern with what was happening while I was MIA. It was a mess – It was beautiful – It was a Best Day...

Just use the sweaty pic!

There are so many good things going on in our day-to-day life that it’s easy to forget to schedule up some of the “regular family maintenance” that falls into one’s responsibilities (I’m completely talking about myself here). A great example was when our local newspaper, The Forum (Fargo, ND) called to do a story on the release of Celebrate the Mommy Milestones and wanted to include a family photo. BEST DAY EVER – Right? I had the best intentions of getting one of those sweet pics taken maybe I will add that back onto my to-do list. I am guessing this would have been a perfect spot to show off my gorgeous family all showered up with matching clothes.   <cue passing ship>   Instead, we selected an ‘action shot’ from my Facebook feed from an amazing NDSU Bison football game where we completely ruled the field in Iowa … certain it was the sweatiest I have ever been in public. The good news: no one was surprised that I didn’t have a glamor shot ready … apparently that is just not how we roll. It really didn’t matter, I wasn’t going to fool anyone and they loved it anyway – sweat and all! Go...
